Mindfulness is “the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment to moment.” It is “an intentional and self-regulated focusing of attention whose purpose is to relax and cam the mind and body”. Mindfulness is cultivated with various meditative techniques. Its benefits have been thoroughly researched, most notably by Jon Kabat-Zinn, who developed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction programs that are used in many health settings around the world.
